![]() It’s that time again! It’s the second round of the community #budgetbuildbattles! This month’s theme is Junkyard Royalty. The builds must be made with trash (plus glues and paints) and must be of something you’d find in a royal palace. So I’m looking for throne rooms, treasuries, courts, ball rooms, and other opulent designs made with junk. The competition runs starting November 2nd and ending at 11:59 on November 15th! COMPETITION RULES:
I am excited to see what the community comes up with! Make sure to post or dm me some progress pictures along the way!

![]() For the first community build battle, the theme was Corks and Caps. The builders were challenged to create a piece of terrain that would be found around a town. They were limited to using just corks and caps (bottlecaps, jar caps, etc). As usual, paint and glue were also allowed. For this competition, we had 3 competitors: dm_mArio, epic_fail_2, and minisbreakfree. The creativity of these builds was incredible! I loved seeing how each build was so different. Entry 1: epic_fail_2![]() Epic_fail_2 has been a participator in the budget build battles since it started as just a closed group of builders. I absolutely adore this build. The little monkey and shark are so cute and quirky! I also love that he's repped his Canadian pride with the knight's bottle cap shield. Entry 2: minisbreakfree![]() This build made me smile so much when I saw it. Cap-man and Cork-man are just so whimsical! I can see them coming to life and dancing competing jigs on those wonderful tables. So many fun little details in the tavern itself! I especially like the cap on the post in the back that says "Cheers" (a bit hard to see in the picture but I promise it's there and awesome). Entry 3: dm_mArio![]() And finally we have our winning build: dm_mArio's graveyard scatter terrain set! I was so impressed seeing the creative usage and techniques to create these little pieces. Using shaved plastic from the water bottle caps as grass on the tiny wine cork bases was brilliant and the cork material made for great texture for the headstones. He even used crushed cork to create a dirt texture for his bases! I love the techniques he utilized for this and definitely was inspired to make my own cork gravestones soon after. Bravo! ![]() A lot of terrain building is done with fancy materials and tools. But there are so many possibilities for terrain made with cheap materials. The budget build battles are a series of community building challenges hosted on my Instagram. Builders are challenged to create a themed piece using only a specified cheap material. They have two weeks to make their build and submit it. On this blog, I will be showcasing the awesome community builds each month. It is always so wonderful to see how creative the builders can get with the materials. If you are interested in participating, send me a DM on Instagram. If you do not have an Instagram account and still would like to participate, you can also send me a message on the Contact page and I will showcase your builds here and on Instagram! Happy building! |
